The venerable Trinidadian restaurant Pam’s Kitchen closed its University District location two weeks ago and will re-open in the heart of Wallingford at the intersection of North 45th Street and Wallingford Avenue North by the end of February.
Pam’s Kitchen replaces the ill-fated Salut Bistro which lasted all of nine days closing late last year. The original Pam’s Kitchen and surrounding buildings will be demolished to make way for a mix-used development.
Pam’s Kitchen will continue to operate it’s Eastlake lunch location, open for a year, Monday through Friday from 11 am to 4 pm.
The new and improved Pam’s Kitchen will feature a broader menu and a full service bar. It will serve lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night menu until 1 am daily, as well as weekend brunch.
Pam Jacob, the restaurant’s namesake and owner, promises oysters on the half shelf as well as crab and tilapia entrees on the expanded menu. She also plans to serve rum punches and other Caribbean cocktails at the full service bar until 2 am.
“We are trying to do things we couldn’t do in the U-District because we were dealing with college students budgets,” Jacob said.
